Good Eats: The Griddle Cafe

blog-griddle.jpg

Our good friend Reecie from Honorable Media hooked us up with a  guest post  where she shares some great info on another spot for some Good Eats.

The Griddle Cafe is a trendy and always packed hole-in-the-wall spot on Sunset in Hollywood. It’s a blink and you’ll miss it but you won’t miss the loads of people waiting outside to get a taste of one of THE best breakfast spots in town. If you have two hours to kill for a leisurely breakfast or lunch before you get your day in full swing, then this is the place to check out.

First…on the weekends you can expect to wait for at least 30 minutes to get a table for 2-4 people. If waiting for 30 minutes to an hour is something you can’t bear…then this place is not an option for you, because it’s ALWAYS packed and there is never a shortage of people willing to wait. However, if the wait doesn’t intimidate you, then you’re in for a real treat!

While you are waiting you will see the waiters bring out an assortment of mouth-watering dishes that keep you glued to your spot waiting for your turn to be seated. One of the most noticeable items on the Griddle Menu is their gigantic pancake dish. I have NEVER seen anyone finish their enormous three pancake plate…and to attempt it would be futile. Instead, I would recommend splitting the pancakes with another person since 1.5 pancakes will surely fill you up!

My favorite dish on the menu is their to-die for “Mom’s French Toast”. You cannot get French toast better than this ANYWHERE else! It’s so good, I can’t even in good conscious order French toast from another restaurant because I know it won’t measure up. Their French toast, waffles, and pancakes all come in a multitude of varieties, so if you like a chocolate chips, blueberry, or strawberry twist then you won’t be disappointed. The Griddle also serves lunch (which is quite delicious), but the breakfast is what makes this spot a place to return to over and over again.

Here are some tips:
1) The Griddle Cafe only has a few tables to accommodate large parties, so trying to get one of those few tables will put you at the mercy of the people who I’ve always seen take their sweet time getting up. Moral of the story: be prepared to wait!

2) Put your name in for a table as soon as possible. I know the average person would rather wait an extra five minutes for their breakfast-mate to arrive before seeing the host, but that will do you no good in this case. Even if your name is called before your entire party has arrived, at least you are still at the top of the always growing list when everyone finally arrives.

3) This place is pretty small so don’t expect to be able to stretch out. If you feel sitting closely to other people is unsettling then this place isn’t for you.

4) The Griddle is a good place for a morning/afternoon date and or just hanging out with a few close friends and/or family.

5) There is no valet…so look for parking in the neighborhood. One hour parking will not be enough so save yourself the parking ticket and find a different place to park.

6) The breakfast dishes start off cheap, but the pancakes, waffles, and French toast don’t come with eggs or any other side dishes. As a result, the price for breakfast can quickly add up with the addition of sides. The average price for two people with a beverage and meal is about $35. However, if you’re trying to pinch pennies, then skip the beverage, skip the sides, and stick with the basics which I can assure you will fill you up on its own. This will drop the price down to about $12 bucks a person including tax and tip.
