Tis the Season….

blog-tis.jpg

The holidays are rapidly approaching. Some are finishing up school and getting ready, others are enjoying casual Fridays, long lunches and office parties. Southern California has finally seen some rain and a few days with temperatures lower than 80 degrees. It is truly a great time of year that everyone should enjoy.

We have an enormous amount of events for the remaining part of the year and we are aware that there will be many house parties, office soriees, and special events you may partake in. We would like to take the time to remind everyone the importance of being smart while out partying this season. While you may have a glass of wine or celebratory cup of that special eggnog to compliment the festivities, please be sure to think before you drink.

Unfortunately, Los Angeles isn’t one of the major cities where the majority of the population lives in the city and uses public transportation. Many people travel to areas far from where they live in order to party, drink, and then drive home.

Drinking and Driving is a deadly combination, and we know this, and yet many of us have done it before. It is very dangerous and if caught is a very big inconvenience, which include jail, large fines and the loss of your driving privileges. We have uploaded a Blood Alcohol Content Chart for men and women to help you when planning your holiday party schedule. Everyone doesn’t drink, so you have the opportunity to reach out to friends that don’t drink to be designated drivers. Otherwise, flip a coin to figure out who wont get to drink for the night.

So before you head home from a night of partying, be sure that you are not under the influence. If there is any question, then you should wait. Life is a precious thing; don’t gamble with yours or anyone else’s. Don’t forget to be aware of other drivers on the road. Because even if you’re making the right choices, there’s someone out there who isn’t else isn’t.

We wish everyone a great and safe Holiday Season!

Sweet Sips: The Bodega Wine Bar

blog-bodega.jpg

For my best friend’s 25th birthday I decided to throw a small surprise get-together for her at the Bodega Wine Bar in Pasadena. The living room vibe of the bar/lounge was extra accommodating and the heated outdoor patio added to the casual, yet chic setting. Don’t be discouraged if you’re new to the wine game, this spot is not limited to wine experts. Bodega is far from uptight with its laid-back atmosphere for conversation, plenty of seating, and surprisingly satisfying music choices (they even played a little Q-tip “Vivrant Thing”) to set the mood right. The waitresses took care of us despite the packed Friday night crowd.

The menu is very user- and price-friendly allowing you to choose from a selection of 12 reds and 12 whites all at $8 per glass. If you aren’t feeling wine, no worries…you can still enjoy yourself and have a beer, cold sake, or soju cocktails. Whether you order a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon or a Red Stripe you’re sure to enjoy yourself. You may also try their new location in Santa Monica.

American Gangster: Elevated Outing

elevated american gangster flyer

After much hype and anticipation, American Gangster (the movie) will finally release this weekend, and American Gangster (the album) will be here next week! Although the bootleggers were pushing it this past week, many who have seen and heard have promised enjoyment. Me and the crew are rolling to see it during the midnight showing at the Grove. Hop online and get your ticket(s)–cause it will probably sell out–and meet us at the Grove in LA for American Gangster. Yeah, it’s a late showing, but some things you got to break curfew for; plus you know you want to be the one at work that has already seen it before everyone else. Click here to buy tickets

Five Four, LA Take Over

We have all used the slang “one” or “one love,” and know that 5 – 4 = 1. Put those two concepts together and you have Five Four Clothing, a company whose clothing designs “reflects a brand without boundaries.” A progressive men’s clothing line–with women’s coming in Fall of 2009–Five Four provides quality apparel, which is sometimes hard to find amongst today’s designers. They also have a campaign called One, where they ask consumers to take just one day out to use alternative forms of transportation, in an effort to preserve our environment.

My man J-Dubb, the marketing director at Five Four, shot us this video to share with you all. Great marketing video, how would you have reacted? They used 54 men, 7 black suburbans and in 1 day Five Four took over Los Angeles.

Approved Audio: Ne-Yo - Chillin?

I don’t know where this track came from, but it’s a cool song to vibe to. It may be a special track from a foreign release, something scrapped from Because of You, or something coming soon. Either way, take a listen to this Ne-Yo track that we will call “Chillin” since I don’t know the real title.

Fresh Gear: The Hundreds

A t-shirt, jeans and sneakers are currently the dress code for males of all ages. For some, it’s a casual fit. For others, a work uniform. Either way, this combination of attire has stood the test of time. The only thing that seems to change is the fit style, and which colors are hot.

Currently, you can find a number of brands with plenty of hot pieces; but a stand-out that you can find on Rosewood, just off of Fairfax is called “The Hundreds“. Branded with an exploding bomb, their original styles attract buyers from across the country. Their women’s line, called Tens, offers creative shirts and an array of accessories. If you are lucky, you may find Mos Def or Ms. Badu chillin’ around the way. Check out The Hundreds.

Good Eats: Berri’s

Where to go after the club? Well you can hit one of the typical spots: Denny’s, IHOP or Norms…or you can venture over to Berri’s Pizza Café. If you get there in a timely matter (before 1:30am), you will be able to walk in with ease, get a table, and get to ordering. But if you like to parking lot pimp, by the time you get to Berri’s you will think you were still at the club; this spot will seem as if you need to be on the guest list to get in. Offering a great assortments of pastas, pizzas and teas, Berri’s is a great place to eat, regardless of the time of day. Go for lunch or for a midnight snack, and try the lobster pizza while you are there.

Pamper Yourself: Nail Elite & Spa

Jay once said, “Baby girl if it’s Hammer time, then hide your toes”…or you can head over to Nail Elite & Spa in Santa Monica to step your nail game up (fellas too!). Situated right next to the 3rd Street Promenade, it’s the perfect location if you have some other errands to run.

Yes, winter is coming; but if you live in Los Angeles you’re sure to be rocking open-toed shoes at some point (it never rains in Southern California, right?). A manicure / pedicure will cost you about $32, and it’s well worth it. I’ve tried my fair share of nail shops in LA, and I drive all the way from Downtown to go to this one. You’ll receive great service, and they never rush you (I hate that!). If you really want to pamper yourself, opt for the extra 15 minute foot and leg massage…heaven!

Walk-ins are welcome but if you want to get in and out, I recommend making an appointment.

Approved Audio: The Graduate Mix Tap

With Ye’s platinum-plus status for Graduation, I know most of you have the album, either via download or purchase. With many great albums come great remix albums; if you remember, the Black Album had a White, Grey and many other remix albums. So with Graduation’s popularity, The League Crew set created The Graduate. Mixed by Mick Boogie, Tony Urban and our buddy 9th Wonder, hosted by Kanye and sponsored by LRG, you have 28 remixed, rearranged (and some brand new) songs for your listening pleasure.
